At the dawn of the 20th century, France was experiencing a golden age of culture, modernity, and innovation — and advertising art was no exception. In this vibrant context, Jules-Alexandre Grün (1868–1938), one of the foremost French poster artists of the Belle Époque, created the stunning “Paris-Médoc – Table Wines”, around 1900.

Grün, a rival of Jules Chéret and contemporary of Leonetto Cappiello, stood out for his dynamic, expressive style. His posters are renowned for their vibrant characters, strong color contrasts, and lively Parisian scenes. This particular piece captures a warm, intimate dinner moment: a woman in a bright red dress pours Médoc wine for a cheerful gentleman, both seated under the soft glow of a hanging lamp — a perfect image of French art de vivre.

The poster promotes table wines from the Médoc, a world-renowned wine region in southwestern France. More than just an advertisement, this artwork communicates a lifestyle — elegance, hospitality, and the joy of shared meals. Such posters were instrumental in building the national and international reputation of French wines.

Printed in Paris by H.Laas et L.Pécaud & Cie, this lithograph exemplifies the harmony between artistic sophistication and commercial communication. Today, it is considered a rare collector's item, treasured for its artistic quality, vibrant composition, and historical value.
