The Monaco Avril poster, created by French artist Jules-Alexandre Grün between 1905 and 1910, is a quintessential work of the Art Nouveau period. Grün (1868–1934), a renowned lithographer and poster artist, was known for his bold compositions and vibrant colors that captured the elegance and dynamism of the Belle Époque.

This poster was designed to promote the Monaco Motorboat Exhibition and Competition, a fashionable sporting event held every April in Monaco’s bay. It depicts an elegant spectator watching the boat races from the promenade. The composition highlights Monaco’s prestigious setting, with the sparkling Mediterranean as a backdrop, rendered in the fluid graphic style typical of Art Nouveau.

Grün’s Monaco Avril perfectly embodies the art of promoting tourism and high society life on the Riviera in the early 20th century, reflecting the refinement and prestige that defined Monaco during the Belle Époque.
