Original Swiss tourism poster for the Val de Ruz Electric Railway, circa 1900.
This original travel poster promotes the Val-de-Ruz electric railway network, which runs through the canton of Neuchâtel (Neuchâtel Jura). The Val-de-Ruz district lies in the middle of the route linking the towns of Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds, in a valley formed by two forested mountains that culminate in the Vue des Alpes (View of the Alps).
The composition is particularly interesting. Very decorative, it allows by a game of assembling small paintings of various sizes and formats to present all the aspects of the region. One can find winter sports, peaceful villages, walks in the mountains and above all the illustration of the passage of the electric train in the middle of a picturesque landscape.
Finally, the typography and decorative plant elements are reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style, in vogue at that time.
