This 1905 tourist poster promotes the resort of Chamonix in an advertisement for the PLM railways. The artist, Abel Faivre, was a disciple of Renoir who worked mainly for Parisian newspapers. A French painter, poster artist, lithographer, illustrator and cartoonist, he is particularly famous for his propaganda posters in support of the French war effort (1914-1918). In 1907, he was a founding member of the Salon des Humoristes committee.

Very rare, the famous 1905 poster for the first winter season in Chamonix in 1905-1906 is regularly re-issued on anniversary (often post-portem) occasions. The original version shows the dates of the summer and winter seasons, as well as examples of travel times to the resort. There is also the address of the PLM Company and the mention of the Chamonix Syndicate.

Today, Abel Faivre's works are exhibited at the Institute of Arts in Chicago, in London at the British Museum, and at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
