Original travel poster Wonderful Copenhagendrawn by Viggo Vagnby in 1959 for the Copenhagen Tourist Association.

One of the most famous prints in Danish poster history is Viggo Vagnby's drawing of ducks crossing the street. This emblematic poster illustrates a joyful event that actually took place in 1959. In the Frederiksberg district, in the middle of rush hour, a police officer stopped all cars and pedestrians after a family of ducks had broken into the road. The little family was thus able to continue its journey in complete safety, un a moment full of tenderness that makes headlines in many countries.

Viggo Vagnby studied painting in Aarhus before travelling to France in the early 1920s to improve his skills as a draughtsman. He worked as an advertising designer and exhibition architect before setting up a drawing office in Aalborg. Renowned illustrator of tourist posters, his style is based on a simplified form and an emphasis on elements characteristic of a region or city.
