This original travel poster promotes winter sports in Murau Styria, Austria, accessible by the Mur valley railway opened in 1894.

The Murtalbahn is a 760-meter narrow-gauge railroad: the line runs along the valley of the Mur River from the town of Unzmarkt through Murau to Tamsweg, which is just over the Styrian border in the state of Salzburg.

This work by Gustav Jahn (1879-1919) features skiers wearing wooden skis and traditional clothing. One can admire the immaculate slopes in a picturesque landscape, the pine trees covered with deep snow and a chalet visible under the mountains in the distance.

The title in stylized letters is accompanied by a smaller picture of a group tobogganing over a village, as well as a descriptive text of the area and one of the region. The poster mixes form and substance: it is both decorative and informative.
