Original poster designed in 1890 by Francisco Tamagno to promote tourism in Arcachon with the Chemins de Fer du Midi.

Seaside town located on the ocean shore in the southwest of France, Arcachon is divided into four districts which take their names from the seasons of the year. For example, the Ville d'Été is home to shopping streets, and the Ville d'Ete has a Moorish casino and extravagant 19th century villas. To the south of the city is the famous Dune du Pilat, a huge natural sand dune.

In 1890, the Italian painter Francisco Nicolas Tamagno created this composition for the Chemins de Fer du Midi to promote the destination. He split the poster in two to show the different facets of seasonal activities.

After training in Rome in watercolour and lithography, Tamagno was active in the poster industry in France between 1880 and 1914. In particular, he invented the Pierrot for the Cointreau brand, inspired by a photograph of Nadar from the mime Najac: his advertising character will be used for 50 years. Its remarkable graphic qualities are also used for Absinthe Cusenier and Cachou Lajaunie.
