Today, Belsize & Irwell bikes are incredibly rare. Sought after and listed by specialists and enthusiasts, we know for example that only three known examples of the Irwell n°2 so-called "safety" model (the ancestor of the modern bicycle) have survived. They are respectively in France, America and England.

This original poster by an unknown author shows the extraordinary features of the British brand's bikes. The fashion for grand-bi and other two- and three-wheeled curiosities was at its height between the 1870s and 1980s.

It bears at the bottom left the mention of its printer: David Allen & Sons, Belfast & London. The master printer's family saga began in 1957 and flourished from 1872 onwards. A family business printing banknotes and lithographic posters, it achieved worldwide renown under the impetus of Allen's sons. At their initiative, offices were opened in London (1888) and Manchester (1893) and the firm specialized in theatre poster printing and theatre management. By 1908, it was one of the largest poster companies in the world.
