This original vintage tourism poster promotes skiing in the Dolomites, a mountain range in the Italian Alps. Formerly called Monti Pallidi, or pale mountains, it is remarkable for the whiteness of its rock.

Alpine skiing became particularly popular here after the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina, although the Dolomites were already well known since the beginning of the 19th century, surveyed by the greatest mountaineers and appreciated by hikers.

The illustration is by Fortunato Depero, an Italian painter and graphic artist affiliated with the futuristic avant-garde movement. Closely linked to the world of advertising, the artist exhibited what he defined as an advertising painting at the 1926 Venice Biennial. The work, Squisito al selz, is intended to symbolically mark the union between advertising and art.
Depero collaborated with the Campari brand on several occasions, and designed the Campari Soda bottle.

The influence of futurism is also perfectly visible on this original poster. Indeed, the aesthetics of speed and the exaltation of the modern world are expressed by dynamic lines and deep colors, as well as borrowings from Cubism such as the simplification of elements and the explosion of forms.
