In 1969, Michael Ritchie directed Downhill Racer...considered one of the best skiing films ever released on the silver screen. It stars Robert Redford and Gene Hackman.

His poster is also one of the most eye-catching sports film posters and is even ranked as one of the best film posters ever produced by Premier Magazine. Attributed to Stephen Frankfurt (who also designed the campaign for Rosemary's Baby) and Philip Gips, this Model A is said to be "from the kiss".

The use of space is particularly original and subtle. Divided in two by a paper cut-out effect, the poster presents a very close up of the actors' faces, leaving the whole lower part white. A black dot in the centre attracts attention: it is the silhouette of a skier descending a slope and it is then that the suggestiveness of the whole takes on its full meaning. The kiss occupies the sky, the torn paper becomes a mountain, and the emptiness turns into snow.

The minimalist monochromatic design reads in red letters "How fast must a man go to get from where he's at?".
