This original vintage poster titled “Automobile Services on the Jura Route – The Descent from La Faucille to Geneva and the Mont-Blanc Range” is a striking work by French artist Géo Dorival, created circa 1920 for the renowned PLM railway company (Paris–Lyon–Mediterranean).

It captures the golden age of French railway tourism. At the turn of the 20th century, PLM developed an ambitious network of automobile connections to extend its train lines to remote scenic destinations, such as the Jura mountains and the spectacular Mont-Blanc massif, pictured here in an idyllic Alpine glow.

Géo Dorival (1879–1968), a trained decorative artist, was one of the leading poster designers of the era. His style combined strong graphic lines, harmonious colors, and a refined sense of composition. He was commissioned by PLM and other transport companies to create promotional artwork that evoked both elegance and escapism.

This scene shows the descent from the La Faucille pass, a key route between France and Switzerland, with a glowing Mont-Blanc rising above the lake and forested valley. It beautifully captures the serene spirit of early 20th-century travel – a celebration of nature, movement, and modernity.

The poster was printed by Les Imprimeurs d’Art – Marseille using the stone lithography technique, known for its vibrant tones and textural depth. These large-format prints were produced in limited numbers and used in station halls or travel agencies, making surviving originals rare and highly collectible.

Today, this piece stands as an exceptional visual testament to French railway heritage – both a rare collector’s item and a powerful decorative artwork for lovers of vintage travel, Alpine landscapes, or graphic art history.
