In the post-WWII years, the Alpine regions of Europe, especially Austria, actively promoted winter tourism as a means of economic revival. This vintage poster titled Tyrol, created by Franz Lenhart in the 1950s, is a perfect representation of that promotional effort.

Franz Lenhart (1898–1992), a major figure in Alpine travel poster art, was born in the Austrian Tyrol and trained in Vienna and Florence. From the 1920s onwards, his visual style combined graphic modernism with a romantic, idealized vision of the mountains. He produced over a hundred posters celebrating the Alps, particularly for tourism boards in Austria, Italy, and South Tyrol.

With Tyrol, Lenhart delivers a stylized and elegant vision of winter. A golden vintage car, loaded with skis, arrives at a snow-covered chalet. Traditional Austrian figures warmly greet the visitors, while skiers and children play in the foreground. The vivid composition evokes comfort, heritage, and the prestige of the Alpine lifestyle. This poster exemplifies the golden age of stone lithography in travel advertising – both dynamic and refined.
