This travel poster of the PLM company presents walkers on the outskirts of a hamlet at the foot of the famous site of the Mer de Glace. This point of view is particularly appreciated and often used in advertisements for the Mont Blanc region.

François Cachoud's works oscillate between landscapes and intimate portraits. Famous for his night and chiaroscuro effects, he is at the origin of the decorative panels of the liner Savoy and executes several advertising posters for the company P.L.M. His work is associated with that of the Barbizon School, a colony of landscape painters marked by the desire to work in the open air and from nature. This pictorial impulse takes shape from the 1820s and is intimately linked to French Romanticism.

Finally, Cachoud's style is often compared to Corot's, known for his idyllic landscapes, usually with small characters, following the rules of the classical landscape.
