Considered by many to be a masterpiece, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves marks a stage in animation and the seventh art through the technical and artistic innovations developed and used for the film.

Contrary to popular belief, the first animated feature film in the history of cinema is not Snow White and the Seven Dwarvesbut it is the first animated feature film by Walt Disney and the Hollywood studios. It is also the first in the world with both sound and colour. Disney uses the Technicolor process.

Due to its success, the film is getting worldwide screenings in cinemas. This was the case in France in December 1944, September 1951, December 1962, December 1973; December 1983 and February 1992.
While Snow White went out to the United States in 1958, a coordinated outing to several countries was being prepared for Christmas 1962. It was that year that the film was completely re-translated and dubbed in French, in response to the criticisms made at the time of the initial release. On the poster specially designed in the Jean Fourastié workshops, the film is described as an admirable masterpiece and we find the name of Athos film which is in charge of the distribution that year. The characters are stylised and the slogan takes on its full meaning: "Snow White comes back to us younger than ever! ».

Freely adapted from the Grimm brothers' tale, Snow White lays the foundation for the entire Disney universe. It received the Honorary Oscar in 1939, was selected by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Film Registry for its "historical, cultural or aesthetic importance" in 1989 and is still in the "top 100 greatest American films".
