This splendid poster, titled To the Golden Horn via the Simplon-Orient-Express, was created around 1920 by Maurice Barbey. It is based on a landscape by Félix Ziem and printed in lithography by Gambet & Co. (Paris). Nicknamed the “Golden Horn,” it evokes the mythical waters of Istanbul, the gateway from Europe to the East.

Aimed at an affluent clientele traveling from London to Istanbul via Calais, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Ostend, and Amsterdam, it served as an effective promotion for the prestigious Simplon-Orient-Express line in the postwar European context.
