A striking testament to a landmark in documentary cinema and a jewel of 1960s Polish graphic design, this original poster is far more than decorative art: it is a rare collector's item imbued with history and purpose.

Designed by Roman Opałka, a major figure of the Polish graphic avant-garde, this poster was created for the Polish release of Serengeti nie może umrzeć (Serengeti Shall Not Die), the acclaimed 1959 documentary by German zoologist and filmmaker Bernhard Grzimek. Hailed with an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1960, the film stands as one of the earliest global calls for wildlife conservation, documenting the critical importance of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park.

The poster combines geometric abstraction and wildlife symbolism: a stylized giraffe, fragmented into white organic shapes, stands out against a deep black background, evoking both the beauty and fragility of African fauna. On the left, a traditional spear adds visual weight and cultural resonance.

This Polish edition – printed circa 1963–1964 – is an authentic period lithograph in vertical A1 format, preserved in excellent vintage condition. It represents the aesthetic power and ideological depth of the internationally acclaimed Polish School of Poster Art.
