WHAT DOES "ORIGINAL POSTER" MEAN?

Whether it is a movie poster or a tourism poster (much rarer in advertising posters), a poster is considered to be original if its draw date is the first national release of a film or if it is promoting a location or event for the first time.

If this is not the case, then it is referred to as reprint or re-release.

A reprint consists of a reprint identical to the original poster from the same plates (in the case of lithography) or films (in the case of four-colour offset printing). It is therefore difficult to appreciate the true authenticity of the poster.

Fortunately, a new logo, a new address or a difference in format (sometimes to the nearest millimetre) makes it easier to identify.

Finally, a reprint, in case of loss of the original lithographic plate, can also be indicated by a "d'après...", indicating that the artist has made a copy of his original drawing.

When we talk about re-release (especially for movie posters), it is the printing of new advertising material in the context of a re-run of the film in theatres. The distinction between "reprint" and "re-release" is thus easy to make, since the visual may be completely different, as may the printer or distributor. Sometimes the new poster may even be more successful than the original (or vice versa), but this is a matter of taste, although a collector will always prefer the original poster.

The differences are therefore sometimes subtle and even a professional of the vintage poster can be misled.

The posters offered on the site www.posterissim.com are, for the most part, original posters in the first print run (if not, the word "reprint" or "re-release" is specified in the tab "Data sheet").

An original poster is, barring exceptions, more expensive than a reprint or a re-release poster because it is rarer and more sought-after.

www.posterissim.com as an expert and professional seller of original vintage posters, brings you all its knowledge and experience to assist you in the acquisition of an authentic vintage poster, wether it is an original poster, a reprint or a re-release.
