Original French poster from 1964 designed by Hurel for the film The gendarme of Saint-Tropez with Louis de Funès directed by Jean Girault.
Franco-Italian comedy film directed by Jean Girault and released in 1964, The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez is conceived as an "unpretentious little comedy" with a low budget. Rarely seen in medium-budget comedies of the time, the film, shot in natural settings in Nice and Saint Tropez, is in colour.
Nevertheless, he still topped the French box office with more than 7.8 million admissions and Louis de Funès won a Victoire du Cinéma for his performance. It was here that the actor's career and fame were definitively launched.
The remarkable duo formed by de Funès and Galabru brings this sunny comedy to the backdrop of a nudist hunt that actually took place on the beaches of Saint-Tropez in the 60s. It is this aspect of the scenario that is highlighted in this original poster designed by Hurel with the humorous tone that he masters to perfection.
Fun fact: The Ford Mustang of the film is the first copy to arrive in France, it is also its first appearance in the world in the cinema very shortly before Goldfinger.
